“How do I switch from my non rewarding career to a career in Ocean Conservation that will give me more satisfaction in my life?”

The first thing I ask them is what are they worried about? Many people think they need to have a degree in Marine Biology to get involved in Ocean Conservation…they are wrong…so wrong. I don’t want to be mean or anything because a stereotype exists where people automatically think someone has a PhD in Marine Biology if they say they are involved in Ocean Conservation.

Well I’m going to let you in on a little secret…you ready? Here it is: Marine Biologists are just one piece of the Ocean Conservation puzzle!!!

Marine Biologists study how the Ocean works and try to understand what is going on in the Ocean. That is the job of the scientist…undertand the Ocean. If you find something worth telling people about then write an article about it.

The problem is, when a scientist writes and article on the study they conducted it is written in a scientific language that many people don’t understand. Now, the next thing I am going to tell you is crucial to the importance of the effectiveness of Ocean Conservation!!! (Man, I am dropping bombs of knowledge for you guys today “pats himself on the back”).

The results scientists find need to be communicated to the general public to gain support and action to do something about the issue they found in the Ocean!

This means marketers, science communicators, public relations people, lawyers, politicians, and any other person who deals with interpreting scientific information to appeal to the general public to gain support to make changes are crucial to creating effective Ocean Conservation actions!
